The very first question that should be answered regarding productivity is:

Why do you want to be productive? What is your reason or purpose for being productive?

This sounds obvious, but it’s critical to answer this question. In other words, what objective are you trying to accomplish? What target are you trying to hit? What’s your vision, or what destination are you trying to reach?

Productivity is not about getting things done. It’s about getting the right things done that will create the life you desire. If you don’t know what you want, you won’t know whether or not you are doing the right things. You need to separate what’s truly important from the trivial. Without this, you can’t be productive in the truest sense. Before you can take action, you must have clarity on what you want.

No clarity, no action.
